It’s that time again where I answer the monthly EXP Share from DanamesX. The prompt for this month is Share A Piece or Pieces of Trivia About One Of Your Favorite Games. For more information be sure to visit the prompt post. I will be talking about video game trivia from several games since this is allowed. Each game will be clearly labeled.
Final Fantasy VII
This piece of video game trivia is probably known by a lot of people already but this pertains to the first boss in Final Fantasy VII. Did you know that a line that Cloud says during the boss is the result of a mistranslation? During the fight the boss brings up its tail and Cloud says to attack while the tail is up. This is wrong though as doing that will result in getting hit with a counter attack.
“A misleading battle message has Cloud tell the player to attack Guard Scorpion while its tail is raised, but doing so will cause it to always use Tail Laser, which deals a large amount of damage to both Cloud and Barret. This is its only strong attack.”
Information from Final Fantasy WIKI
Persona 3
I have a couple pieces of video game trivia to share from this game. Did you know that Persona 3 was originally going to be a top down style game? That’s right Persona 3 was originally designed to be a top down style game instead of the 3D style that we have in the final product. There is a great video on YouTube that goes way more in depth and you can find it below. It’s 14 minutes so you might want to open it in YouTube or save the video or later.
Persona 3 as well as Persona 4 are the only games in the numbered series where you cannot talk to enemies. In Persona 1, 2, and 5 all have the ability to communicate with enemies to do things such as asking for money.
Persona 3 was also the only game in the series to have a playable female character with different social links than her male counter part. This character can only be picked in the PSP version Persona 3 Portable. She also has a different battle theme.
Continuing on the topic of Persona 3 Portable, did you know that this version of the game was missing several key features that the ps2 version had? P3P was missing the after story content called The Answer that Persona 3 FES had.
P3P was also missing fusion spells that were present in the original game. Fusion spells were usable when you had two or three specific Personas in your stock in the ps2 versions of the game. If you use cheats to get all the items in P3P one can find items with the names of fusion spells, they are also usable in combat. I am unsure as to why the spells did not make it into the final version of the game. If you would like to read my thoughts on Persona 3 you can do so through this post.
Persona 5
Now for some interesting video game trivia from Persona 5. If you have played Persona 5 you are very well acquainted with the characters. Did you know that the shogi player Hifumi Togo was originally supposed to be a member of the Phantom Thieves? They ended up not adding her due to the amount of characters already in the base game. Below is an amazing video that does a deep dive into the changes throughout development of Persona 5. It’s about a hour long so you might want to open it in YouTube or save the video or later.
Pokemon Black and White
This piece of video game trivia might be an obscure one. In certain locations in Pokemon Black and White there are trainers that change the direction they are looking. When you run with the running shoes they immediately run towards you. Did you know that just pressing the B button causes them to change direction?
Conclusion
One again thank you all for reading. One again if you would like to have more information on the prompt or EXP shares in general, visit DanamesX’s blog talesfromthebacklog.blog. If you have any video game trivia to share feel free to comment below. As usual you can keep up with me on Twitter @realgamerwithg1.

Apr 19, 2021 9:32 amThis is super interesting! Without meaning to sound controversial, I’m glad Hifumi wasn’t included as a member of the Phantom Thieves.

Apr 19, 2021 9:35 amI feel like if she was there would just be too many party members at that point. It would be hard to think of a specific role for her since Makoto is already the tactician.

Apr 19, 2021 10:55 amThanks for sharing! I thought I knew a lot about P3, but didn’t know about the top-down viewpoint of the original idea.
I also didn’t know about the Pokémon tidbit. I wonder if it is programmed that way since most people would be holding down the B button to run.

Apr 19, 2021 11:03 amI think you’re right. They probably just programmed it to whenever B is pressed to have a trainer change the direction they look. I will say that I’m also surprised by all the changes that each Persona game has gone through.
