Introduction
We’ve finally made it to my review of Danganronpa 3. I meant to have it done sooner but decided to take a much needed break. I enjoyed the entire series and am very excited for the next Spike Chunsoft game.
Story
A new cast of 16 characters find themselves kidnapped and imprisoned in a school. Inside, some will kill, some will die, and some will be punished. Reimagine what you thought high-stakes, fast-paced investigation was as you investigate twisted murder cases and condemn your new friends to death.
Danganronpa 3 STEAM Page
I thoroughly enjoyed the story with all the twists and turns that were taken. I thought that the ending was great. I’ll elaborate on it later in the post.
Game Play
If you’ve played the games, or read my reviews, then you know the drill by now. The formula follows the other games in the series. Normal days with exploring, getting to know characters, and class trials. As usual you have a series of normal days before a class trial begins. One of the biggest changes to the game comes during the class trials.
In class trials you can now lie, or commit perjury. This takes the trial through an alternate route. Some cases have different alternate routes than others, but the outcome will remain the same. Also in trials there can be three people making statements at the same time. It’s up to you to find the right statement to agree with or counter.
Another new feature in trials are scrum debates. I don’t want to spoil too much, but they are pretty fun.
Music
As always the music is enjoyable. I’ll be sharing a couple of my personal favorites from the OST, like usual.
Likes
Once again the characters are great. The Danganronpa series has done a great job in getting you invested in the characters. I really enjoyed the ending, I think that it was great. The music was good as always. It’s hard for me to say if Danganronpa 3 was my favorite. I truly enjoyed them all.
Dislikes
Once again I don’t really have too many dislikes that come to mind. I feel as though the audio and character voices aren’t balanced. I’ve pointed this out in the other games. I’ve needed to turn down the music volume by half and increase the volume of the character voices to hear them better. This might be a nitpick.
Other Thoughts
I think the the ending of Danganronpa 3 was great. The main thing touched upon is that the characters are all made up and Danganronpa is a show that everyone is watching. The reason why it’s called Danganronpa V3 is because it’s the 53rd season of the show. I find it funny because they directly mention people wanting Danganronpa in the game, and people want more Danganronpa in real life. I know a lot of people wanted more Danganronpa, but I think the ending of this game made it clear where the developers stood when it comes to the series.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed this series. I’m really glad that I gave this series a chance. I’ll definitely continue to branch our from RPGs in the future. I highly recommend these games to anybody looking to try something new. They are currently on sale as part of Steam’s Christmas sale. The games usually go on sale often. I might even get the games again on the Nintendo Switch at some point. I’m continuing to look forward to Spike Chunsoft’s upcoming game Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. As always thanks for reading, and let me know if you spot a mistake.
Excellent!
Danganronpa 3 was an excellent end to the Danganronpa trilogy. The series continues to excel with great characters and great music!
