Introduction
Guardians of the Galaxy is a great adventure about a band of misfits. I was going to wait to play this game, but when it went on sale I had to get it. It was money well spent.
Story
The story of Guardians of the Galaxy was really good. I liked that they chose to have the Guardians be newly assembled rather then having been established for a bit. I loved getting to hear the backstory of the characters as well as seeing their development throughout the game.
Game Play
For the game play you control Star Lord. Progression is pretty straight forward as you move to a new location once you complete the story objective. In combat you control Star Lord while the other Guardians assist you in combat. They fight on their own while having abilities that you can tell them to use. There is a gauge that fills up and it allows you to Huddle Up. Choosing the appropriate response grants all characters a buff as well as removing the cool down effect on skills.
Throughout the game you’ll be prompted with different choices. Some of the don’t have an impact and serve as you simply responding to a conversation. Other choices will have an impact on the current mission you’re on or later on in the game.
While in different areas you might stumble upon item boxes while exploring. Some of these item boxes contain different costumes for each character. Some costumes were designed specifically for the game, while other costumes were made based on different comics.
Music
Guardians of the Galaxy has a pretty big soundtrack. You can freely listen to songs while you’re on the ship. In the game there is music from a band called Star Lord. This is an imaginary band created specifically for this game. I love that kind of dedication. Here are some of my favorite songs.
Positives
One of the biggest positives are the choices. Some might not have an immediate impact, but will have an impact later in the game. Some of these choices change certain missions and other aspects. Another positive are the different costumes you can find in the game.
Negatives
One negative that I believe that many people have mentioned is that the combat can get a little repetitive. New skills do help keep things fresh but it still falls into a pattern.
Another negative was that sometimes it felt like they threw way too many enemies at you and they were all pretty spongy. I was on the normal difficulty and sometimes it honestly felt harder than that. One example of this is an enemy that heals itself and allies. it takes a decent amount of time to beat the enemy because of the healing and the sponginess.
Conclusion
I enjoyed my time with this game. It honestly surprised me with how good it was. Have you played Guardians of the Galaxy? What did you think about it?
