When they started the early access for Hades 2 I made sure to avoid everything. I didn’t listen to music and I didn’t look at game play, I just wanted to go in completely blind. Here are some of my thoughts.

Characters

Just like Hades, I liked all the characters as well as the designs. The visuals of Hades 2 are so good from the character portraits to the skill selection menu. I took Latin in high-school and part of the classes was learning Greek and Roman mythology. It was cool seeing Super Giant’s interpretations of the characters and seeing what parts of mythology they incorporated.

Weapons

I like how they varied the weapons from the first game. Just like the first game each weapons has its own play style and different attacks. My favorite weapon was the Umbral Flames. I loved being able to hold down the attack button and maneuver around. Once you got some weapon upgrades it became even more fun.

The Bosses

I had a lot of fun with these bosses. The first boss I really struggled against was the 2nd boss. I almost wanted to pull my hair out.

Spoiler

Scylla and the sirens were a super difficult fight for me. I think it took me at least 10 times to get through. It’s difficult since you’re fighting 3 enemies at once. The fight definitely gets easier once you figure things out. The other boss I struggled with sometimes is Prometheus, when nearing Olympus.

If you feel frustrated or feel like giving up, you’ll get the patterns down eventually. Sometimes it takes finding the right weapon or the perfect combination of boons.

Other Thoughts

I definitely didn’t expect there to be another area to get through. I had thought it was just going to be the underworld. They did great with the separate areas. I kept with the weapon I had been using, but had to switch up my strategy and plan out the boons I wanted differently.

I liked the new elements that they added. After completing a run you can activate these arcana cards that give you different buffs. One can raise the rarity chance of boons, while another can increase the damage of omega moves.

Music

The music was just as good as the first one. Something cool is the theme for the 2nd boss. It actually changes after you win for the first time and come back.

Final Thoughts

I would definitely recommend playing Hades 2. Supergiant Games continues to craft amazing games. This was definitely my second favorite game of 2025. I honestly need to go back and play some of their previous games. If you do plan on playing Hades 2, I would recommend beating the 1st one or reading up on the story. This is a sequel so you’ll be missing some context. If you played Hades 2, what were your thoughts? As always thanks for reading!

Great to see another post from you, I hope you are well! I am glad you enjoyed Hades II, and I agree on many of your points here. I also struggled with Prometheus for a while! Intriguing that you like the Umbral Flames the most, as I actually didn’t find much success with them. I like the staff the best! I hope you’re having a great start to the New Year!

The Umbral Flames don't seem too popular, which surprised me. I hope you're having a good year so far as well!
