I’m Excited but Remaining Cautious with Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma

A couple weeks ago the latest trailer for the latest entry into the Rune Factory series was shown. The latest entry is titled, Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma. It looks incredibly ambitious and definitely different from the other games in the series. While I’m looking forward to the game, I still have my reservations especially after Rune Factory 5.

What Needs to Change

The main thing that needs to change is having better optimization. Rune Factory 5 had consistent frame rate drops and stuttering. It felt like it hadn’t been play tested at all. I still pushed through the game, but it was extremely disappointing that it was released like this. Since it’s releasing on the Nintendo Switch and PC, I’ll be getting it on PC. I’m a bit hesitant to get it for the Switch due to the issues with 5. I think the optimization is 100% the developers fault in this situation. I know the Switch isn’t the most powerful system and that it’s older hardware, but this shouldn’t have happened. More graphic heavy and larger games like Tears of the Kingdom ran perfectly fine on my Switch.

What I’m Looking Forward to

I’m really looking forward to the story. It definitely drew me in from the trailer and seems like a bit of a departure from the usual story beats they do. Based on the trailer there also seems to be a huge upgrade in how the characters look as well as graphics from the brief game play clips that were shown. Below is the trailer for those that haven’t seen it. One thing I wonder is how different this game will be from the others as I think this one is not Rune Facotry 6, but the Project Dragon that was mentioned a bit ago.

Final Thoughts

With a release date of 2025, I’m hoping that the final product will be polished. I don’t think I’ll be getting this game as soon as it releases. Out of an abundance of caution I’ll be waiting a bit before picking it up. I’m definitely still excited for the game, I’m just being careful with my purchases. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of the game. What did you think of the trailer? Is Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma a day one pick up for you or will you be waiting? As always thank you for reading!
