Justice League Heroes is an action RPG that was released on the PS2., Xbox, PSP, and Nintendo DS. This game can be played in single player or you can play co-op with a friend. Justice league Heroes was developed by Snowblind studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Sensory Sweep Studios developed the Nintendo DS version.
Justice League Heroes features various members of the Justice League like The Flash, Batman, Superman Wonder Woman, Zatanna, and more. The game begins with Star Labs being attacked by Brainiac. It’s up to the Justice League to stop him. Throughout the game you’ll come across different villains like Doomsday, Cheetah, and Queen Bee.
Game Play
As I mentioned earlier, the game is an action RPG. It’s like Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance, but with Justice League characters. Each stage has two different members you can play as. One mission could have Superman and Batman while another has Zatanna and Martian Manhunter. In single player you can swap between them with the computer controlling the other. Each character has a different play style and different abilities. For example Zatanna can turn enemies into rabbits while Superman can use heat vision and freeze breath. Some levels allow to choose which Justice League members you want to play as. You can unlock new characters as you progress.
As you progress through the game each character can level up. Leveling up gives you points to unlock new moves as well as make unlocked ones stronger. You can have three skills equipped to each character at a time.
Differences in the Versions
As I mentioned earlier, there is a Xbox, PSP, and DS version of the game. I honestly thought there was only a PSP version and a PS2 version. When it comes to graphics, the Nintendo DS version is the only one that has had the quality lowered. This is to be be expected though. One thing that’s interesting is that the DS version has some different bosses.
The DS Version is a Prequel?
As it turns out the Nintendo DS version is completely different from the other releases of the game. It looks like the DS version is a prequel to the events of the other versions. That could explain the DC villains Circe and Prometheus appear only in the Nintendo DS version of the game. From what I could find it seems as though this released the same time as the main game, so I’m confused as to what the goal here was. It’s definitely odd to have a prequel and the main game release at the same time. That would be like Red Dead Redemption 1 and Red Dead Redemption 2 released at the same time. It just wouldn’t make sense. From the trailer it clearly has Nintendo DS listed so I’m a bit confused as to how it ended up as being a prequel.
Were there Any Sequels
There was never a sequel made to Justice League Heroes. It’s a bit disappointing since there are so many different stories that can be adapted. The only other game released connected to this game was a Gameboy Advance Game. I don’t consider it a sequel, but more of a spin off since the events of the game take place during the events of this game. I didn’t even know it existed until I started writing this article. What’s even more interesting is that they appear to have gotten released on the same day. This confuses me since it definitely seems like Justice League Heroes overshadowed it. From what I’ve read, this game was well received.
Conclusion
Justice League Heroes is definitely a memorable game for me. I had a lot of fun playing as a kid. This is a game I’d love to see get a remake or a sequel. It has definitely been a long time since I last played the game, but I feel like it would still be worth it to remake it. Unfortunately I don’t think that will happen considering all the decisions that Warner Bros. Discovery has been making lately.
Thank you all for reading as always. Have any of you played this game before or ever remember seeing anything about it? As usual you can keep up with me on Bluesky.
