Mini Post Retrospective

Memories of Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate title

As most of you are aware the final character was announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It’s been great watching all of the reveals as they came. I wanted to take some time and write about the series since it’s done until they decide to continue.

I first encountered the Smash Bros. series when I had a Game Cube. The one for this system was Smash Bros. Melee. This was one of my most played games that I had at the time. I think I probably enjoyed playing as Roy the most. Sword users were always some of my favorite characters.

Smash Bros. Brawl is me second favorite in the series. I still remember all the summers and days after school that I played this. I didn’t own a Wii so the only time I was able to play was at this afternoon program I went to that also had a summer program. My favorite characters were Pokemon Trainer and Marth. I played this game all the time with my friends when I could. Unfortunately someone stole the game and it was never replaced.

Next we have Smash Bros. for Wii U. At this point was in high school. I think around my Junior year one of my friends started hosting a smash night of sorts at his place. Those nights were always fun and took my mind off school. Eventually one of my other friends started having them at his place and we’d spend the night. Those were honestly some of my best memories from high school. Nothing beats eating pizza while staying up late playing Smash Bros. One of my friends had a Ganondorf Amiibo that was super strong. None of us could beat it.

Last is Smash Bros. Ultimate. I remember pre-ordering and buying a Switch as soon as I could. Me and my friends were obviously excited. What made things even better was knowing that every character would be back. My favorite character to return was Pokemon Trainer. By this time I was done with high school, but my friends and I still got together when we could. With all the DLC characters that were added, it made this game truly memorable. We kept it up as long as we could until the pandemic happened. Only two of us had the game so online play wasn’t feasible. I still have the memories though.

Conclusion

This post mainly serves to share some of the memories I have of the Smash series. Sakurai and everyone else that worked on the series have my gratitude. Because of them I was able to make great memories with some amazing games. You can really feel the love that went into each of these games, it’s even more evident in Ultimate. Feel free to share your favorite character, memory, or game in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
