Image from Bethesda’s site announcing the purchase
As most people in the gaming community are aware of, Microsoft now owns Bethesda. They acquired them through the purchasing of their parent company Zenimax Studios. I believe that Microsoft owning Bethesda is a good thing. Before I dive into this, I am not biased in any way. I have not owned an Xbox in ten or more years. This is purely opinion.
I believe that Microsoft acquiring Bethesda was the best thing that could happen for the studio. Bethesda has had their fair share of ups with the Doom series and their fair share of downs, looking at you Fallout 76. I think Bethesda needs more overhead to guide their game making process. I know there are people that enjoy Fallout 76, but it cannot be denied that Bethesda screwed up the launch as well as many other things related to the game such as the Power Armor Edition.
I believe that a company like Microsoft can help Bethesda make more consumer friendly choices since they can easily see what product is going directly to their systems. I have been a fan of Bethesda since I first played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as a kid when I owned an Xbox 360. Over the past few years I have seen them change from a company that wanted to give a great experience to those that picked up their games, to a company focused purely on profits even if they have to sell you a broken game to do it.
I do not blame developers for my current view of Bethesda. The leadership is to blame with their poor decisions. My one hope is that Microsoft has Bethesda work with a new engine. They have been using the same engine for the Fallout series and Elder Scrolls series for way too long.
Conclusion
Only time will tell whether new ownership will change Bethesda or if they will remain the same. As always thank you for reading as well as visiting my blog. As usual if you’d like to share your opinion or keep up to date with me, you can follow me on Twitter or follow the blog.
