Pokémon Ranger was an amazing spin off series. If you don’t know Pokémon Ranger is a spin off of the main series where instead of catching Pokémon with a Pokéball, you catch them with a styler and get help from them. There have been three games in this series and considering that the Switch is touch screen it needs to come back.
What Makes Pokémon Ranger Different?
Pokémon Ranger is basically Pokémon with a good story but no gym leaders. Like I stated earlier you work as a Pokémon Ranger whose job is to help citizens with tasks as well as Pokémon in distress with the help of your captured Pokémon. Each Pokémon you capture has a specific skill that can be used during captures or in the environment. After using a Pokémon they are released back home. Instead of earning gym badges you earn ranks as you progress through the games. Each game takes place in a new region so each game is a unique experience. The three games in the series are:
- Pokémon Ranger
- Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia
- Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs
Below is some game play from Pokemon Ranger Shadows of Almia.
How do I play these games?
The good thing is that you can play all these games on one system, the Nintendo DS. You can also play them on the 3DS and 2DS as they are backwards compatible with regular DS games. If you own a Wii U they are available as virtual console titles. If you seek them out on the Wii U they cost $9.99 each. If you go the DS route the price varies but I got my copy of Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia for around $15.00.
Should I Play These Games?
I would certainly recommend these games for anyone that is a Pokémon fan that’s looking for a new experience. If you’ve wanted a Pokémon game with more story and side missions then this is the game for you. I played each one of them and enjoyed them all, with Shadows of Almia being my favorite. One thing that I think sets this series apart from the main one is that there is only one version of each which means that all the Pokémon in the game can be found and captured. There is also has it’s own version of Pokémon though it is stripped down to fit with this series. It displays the images of the ones that you’ve captured as well as their abilities.
Conclusion
If you’re looking to expand your collection or experience something new then this is the series for you. As always thank you all for visiting my blog as well as reading my content.
