I was interested in playing Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, and was lucky enough to get into the beta. This post will essentially be about my experience. I’m not doing any kind of technical deep dive or mechanic explanation as I just jump into fighting games every now and then.
My Thoughts
Overall I would say I had fun, but through playing I don’t think this game is for me. I think my favorite character was Ghost Rider. To me he was the easiest to use and get some combos with. I think the most difficult character I played as was Doctor Doom.

He’s pretty slow so you really have to have your movement down and no what you’re doing with the character to really make him shine. The most difficult character to play for me was Storm. Below is a little bit of game play from a CPU match that I did.
Online Play
Before I get into my experience with the online play, I think it’s best to show my internet speed. I think doing this will give full transparency on my experience as well as to help you know if you might experience issues or not.

When I played online I didn’t notice any issues. I was able to play three matches in a row without any issues like lag. I didn’t notice any input delay either. My ethernet cable was also not connected to my PlayStation. In the full release I’d like players being matched with people of similar skill levels. I wasn’t expecting anything like that in this beta, just something I think would be good moving forward.
Improvements
Honestly I don’t have a lot of improvements I’d like to see from here to the final version of the game. I was watching Maximilian Dood to see his thoughts and he mentioned the game needing a training mode. I 100% agree with this. Move inputs are what I struggled with the most, sometimes doing things I didn’t intend to do. I think something like what Street Fighter 6 has would be perfect. SF6 has a really good training mode where you select a character and it shows you an input for their basic moves. You can also then go through and learn combos.
Conclusion
Overall, I don’t think Marvel Tokon is for me. I enjoy fighting games every now and then, but I might skip this one. If you want a good idea on if you’d like this game as well the mechanics, I would recommend checking out Maximilian Dood’s most recent live stream. He streamed the game for a bit and he’s usually my go to for anything fighting game related. As always thank you all for reading!
