Hello again everyone! Today I’ll be sharing my Nintendo DS game collection. This includes 3DS games as well.
Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux
This is a remake of the original Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey with new endings and quality of life updates. This was an interesting game that ties itself heavily to some of the Seven Deadly Sins. I really enjoyed this game. It was pretty challenging for me and the multitude of endings gives it good replay value. My only disappointment was no English voice acting.
Shin Megami Tensei IV
This was the first numbered title I played in the SMT series. I enjoyed the music and story, as well as the characters. I liked that when you change equipment it actually appears on your character. My biggest dislike was the morality system. To get the neutral ending I had to use a guide because you need a certain morality score. Morality scores change based on choices made during certain conversations as well as actions taken. I also did not like that I could not choose who helped me in battles.
Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocolypse
In my opinion SMT Apocolypse improves upon my major issues with SMT IV. This game is a sequel to SMT IV that has you playing as a new main character. I liked them getting rid of the morality system. Getting your preferred ending in this game is way easier. The characters were great and each of them developed as you progressed through the game.
Fire Emblem Awakening
This was my first Fire Emblem game. I had always wanted to try out the games and eventually bought it around 3 or 4 years ago. The story was really enjoyable. I also liked learning how to think more strategically to win battles. The game also had some twists that I did not expect.
Fire Emblem Fates Conquest/Birthright
I have mixed feelings on these Fire Emblem games. They were decent but could have been better. I definitely don’t think they did a great job at explaining the differences well, as FE Conquest was more challenging with combat and you earned less money. Birthright was way easier in comparison. I also hated that if you wanted the full story you needed to buy the two mentioned and a third version called Fire Emblem Revelations.
Pokémon Platinum
This game is a call back to my childhood. I remember going to the store and buying it when it came out. Pokémon Platinum is the third game in Generation 4 that has improvement and extra story elements compared to Diamond and Pearl. The underground and mining was a really fun mechanic that they had.
Pokémon Ranger Shadows of Almia
This is a great game that I think people should try out. This is a spin off from the main series that plays completely differently. Instead of collecting Pokémon to challenge the Pokémon League, you befriend Pokémon to keep the region safe. I wrote an article on the game a couple months ago. I’d read the post if you want to learn a little more about the game.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time
Yet another great spin off from the main series. Like the name implies this is a rouguelike dungeon exploring game. The interesting part is that every character is a Pokémon. The story was great as well as the music. I highly recommend this game.
Pokémon Omega Ruby
This is essentially a remake of Pokémon Ruby. They added some new things and redesigned characters. What I liked most was that they added a side story for the contests. I actually got really drawn into them. There was also an added story after beating the Pokémon League. I didn’t like that there was no Battle Frontier. I know it was only in Pokémon Emerald, but it seemed like it should have been in this game since they didn’t remake Emerald.
Pokémon Crystal Version
You can’t go wrong with the classics. I owned this game back when I was a kid. When I saw it available as a Virtual Console game, I had to buy it. It’s exactly as I remembered it. If you have a 2DS or 3DS I recommend getting it. Make sure to get a Heracross as well, hard to find but you’ll thank me later.
Pokémon Ultra Sun
I enjoyed what this new region had to offer, but the hand holding was ridiculous. Pokémon Ultra Sun is a remake of Pokémon Sun with added content and changed story elements. These changes were appreciated as the end game content in Sun was bare bones. I liked the improved character models from X and Y.
Pokémon X
This is probably my least favorite Pokémon game. The character models just seemed off and I thought the starters were pretty bad. I also felt as though they shoved a lot of rivals into the game without getting the chance to learn much about them. I personally would not recommend this game, but different people have different tastes.
Pokémon White
This was a game that blew me away when I was kid. Everything from the music to the story was amazing. Generation V was truly something special. This is a little bit of a tough game to get because of the price, but if you ever get the chance I would highly recommend this game. The sequel was just as good, but alas it eludes me.
Conclusion
I think that just about covers all of my games I have on the DS. As always thank you all for reading. What Nintendo DS games do you have in your game collection? What are some of your favorites?
