I recently purchased an Anbernic RG 34XXSP for a trip I was going on. I wanted something small and portable and this did the trick. Here’s my quick review for it.
Setup
The setup was a bit tricky. The biggest struggle was trying to troubleshoot the issues I was having. It would struggle to power on. I followed their troubleshooting guide and was able to find the problem. I needed to update the firmware on the SD card. Just a heads up, when you do this the games downloaded will be removed, so copy the folders if you want to keep any of those. It came with a pretty good selection preinstalled.
In order to update your firmware you’ll need to go to the website and locate the most recent file for your system. You’ll also need a program called Rufus in order to apply this update. Like I mentioned, before you do this back everything up.
Your mileage will vary when you start getting to PSP games. So far I’ve only played Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force. It runs pretty good, I noticed some slight stutters but nothing game breaking. I would say anything from PSP and beyond is definitely going to be dependent on the game, so you might need to do some testing. You can tweak the emulation settings if something doesn’t seem right.
Some of the supported systems:
- Game Boy
- Game Boy Advance
- Nintendo DS
- SNES
- PSP
Pros
I recently took this on a trip and it will definitely become my go to traveling system. It has a pretty good battery life and you can either use Bluetooth earphones or regular ones. I also like that it has a backlight. I remember having an old Game Boy Advance, the original one that didn’t close and ran on batteries. It supporting a multitude of different handhelds and consoles is also a big plus.

Cons
So far the only con is that I’ve been having to make save states for the games. Manually saving doesn’t actually create a save file. Now I’m not sure if it’s something with the emulator or maybe there’s some setting I have to change, but I felt like it needed to be brought up.
Conclusion
I would definitely recommend this device if you’re looking for a good travel hand held. With the variety of games it can play, you’ll definitely find something you want to play. You can easily add any games tat aren’t already downloaded if you’d like. I like devices like this because it allows for people to easily experience games from their childhood again or play classics for the first time. The way that the game market is, it’s just far too expensive to attempt to find and purchase these games. Pokemon games alone are always being sold for $100 or more. You’re much better off purchasing this or a similar device. This just about wraps up my thoughts. Thanks for reading!
