I recently had a chance to go through the demo for Neo: The World Ends With You. Here are my thoughts based on the 90 minutes of game play.

Music
The music is just as good, if not better than The World Ends With You. Of the limited songs that were in the demo not a single one sounded bad to me. Music has always been a huge factor in TWEWY. One thing I noticed while playing is that some songs from the first game have been remixed. Some of these songs now have new beats, but you can still recognize the song. I’ll share a couple songs below.
Battles
I really enjoy the battles in this game. You can easily switch between the characters and can even use them simultaneously. One notable change to combat is that the sync gauge has been replaced. Now in battles after hitting enemies sometimes a gauge will pop up that says Drop the Beat. Quickly following up with another character adds a percentage to the Groove gauge at the top. Once it reaches 100% you can unleash a special attack. The pin your character has equipped will change the type of attack that will trigger. Your attack is also boosted and you can still attack while the special attack is happening. I’ve got a video below with some of what I mentioned.
The New Pins
The new pins are pretty cool and unique. Through playing it looks like some pins can only be equipped by certain characters. Something cool is that in the pin menu a video plays under the selected pin that shows how to use it. Another thing I found interesting was that you can now choose whether pins evolve or not. I’m not sure what choosing not to evolve a pin does. I assume it keeps it as is and just has it max level.
Navigation
Navigating in this game is so much easier than TWEWY. If you played it you know what I’m talking about. Getting lost was a fairly common occurrence even when looking at the map. Now a marker appears showing you the way to the next location. This makes it impossible to get lost.
Dislikes
View When Walking
This one is more of a nitpick and a little hard to explain. When walking around the world tilts some. It’s a little disorienting but it’s something I’ll probably get used to. Other than that there really wasn’t anything that I disliked. I think that everything in the demo was really solid.
Conclusion
After playing through the demo twice I believe that Neo: The World Ends With You is going to be a great game. The combat was really enjoyable and the music elevated things to another level. I am also interested in seeing where the story goes after the demo. I highly recommend downloading the demo and giving the game a try. The demo is available fro Nintendo Switch, ps4, and ps5. Your save data will carry over to the full game if you choose to buy it. The full game releases July 27th.
As always thank you all for your continued support. If you are interested in helping support the blog or want to follow me on Twitter, these are my links. I also have a link to my YouTube channel where I have videos of me playing through the demo. The third and final part will be up the same day as this post. Have you had a chance to try the demo? If so what did you think of it?
