Hello everyone! For those of you who don’t know me I am The Gamer with Glasses but you can also call me by name, George. This post serves as an explanation for how I plan on doing this collaboration/tournament if it gets enough interests. I’ll break this down by different sections to try to make it easier to understand what I’m going for.
The Tournament
For the tournament I’ll create a sign up form that will cap at 32 but I’m open to having more if the interest is there. On the sign up sheet you’ll need to provide your Pokémon Showdown username as well as your twitter. I need your twitter so I can follow you and contact you for anything regarding the tournament. This will be a single elimination tournament using Pokémon Showdown. Each round for the tournament will last 1 week to allow time for everyone to come up with a time to battle your opponent. If there is a huge timezone difference from your opponent let me know and I will contact other competitors to make changes. For those of you who don’t know it is an online Pokémon battle simulator. Users pick their Pokémon, their moves, items, and stats. The Pokémon you can choose depends on the rules that you use. Before I go over a little bit of a tutorial I activated my ad blocker. I took some screenshots to help explain for those that have never used Pokémon Showdown. I would advise you playing around some to get a better understanding.
Step 1: Starting and Choosing a Name
When you first go to the website you’ll have to click either play button to go into the game.
After that click on choose username to have a unique name. A name is limited to 19 characters. You should register your name to make sure that only you can use it.
To register your name click on the register button. You will be asked to create a password as well as entering the name of a Pokémon that serves as their captcha. To login every time you go to the site press the choose a username button. It will then say that the name is registered and ask you for the password to that name.
Step 2: Choosing a Team and Stats
To start creating a team click the team builder button on the left side of the screen.
At the top you should see a format label. Click the box under it and choose [Gen 8] Battle Stadium Singles. This is important because this will be what the tournament uses. To start building a team under this format click on add Pokémon button. You’ll get a list of Pokémon to choose from. Be sure to make a team of six.
Below is what it should look like when you get the drop down list. I’ve circled the format that we’ll be using.
After you have a team of six click the team button and it will take you to the list of your team. Click the validate button to make sure your team is ready to be used. Be sure your Pokémon each have a different item and that you’ve changed the EV modifier. I know that not everyone knows what these are. For those that are truly competitive there is a guide to explain them. For those that don’t want to use them you have increase at least one EV by 1 before a Pokémon is cleared.
Your team will be cleared if you delete cookies.
Step 3 Finding Your Opponent and Battling
To find your opponent for the tournament enter in the name they are using for Pokémon Showdown by clicking the find a user button. After that type in the username you’re looking for then press open. After that choose the format that has been established for the tournament and then click challenge. Your opponent will then receive the challenge. After they accept it the battle will begin. At the start choose the three Pokémon that you will use for the battle from your team of six.
Step 4: After a Battle
After a battle inform me that you won your match by messaging me on Twitter. All updates will be through blog posts and Twitter so be sure to follow me for the duration of the tournament. If you’d like to unfollow me after the tournament feel free to do so.
The Collaboration
For those who do not wish to take part in the tournament there is still a way you can participate in the collaboration. For each tournament update every week I will post an updated bracket and the post will have a title with a new topic. Below will be an example.
Example: Week 1 of Pokémon Showdown Tournament! What’s your favorite Pokémon generation?
Above is an example of what the blog post title would look like. I would then attach an updated bracket like I have below. If you aren’t participating in the tournament you can answer the question in the title by posting a comment on the post.
If you still have questions feel free to message me on Twitter @realgamerwithg1. Be sure to follow me before you message me because I don’t think I can respond to you unless you’re following me. Below is a link to the signup sheet. You can click the link below.
