2021 is almost at an end and there have been a lot of good games. As of this post I’ve only had the opportunity to play five games that released this year. I’ll be ranking them from least favorite to favorite. Before I start the list I enjoyed each of these games, none of them were bad.
5. Mass Effect Legendary Edition
It was great revisit this trilogy with updated graphics and some good quality of life improvements. Revisiting this trilogy was a great experience. The addition of the photo mode was great as well as being able to play all the DLC. I never got the chance to play the DLC when I played the originals. The only reason I have it ranked here at the bottom is because the games are remasters and not completely new. I reviewed this game back in June.
4. Shin Megami Tensei V
This was honestly my most anticipated game of this year. I heavily enjoyed it as I’ve put in about 100 hours. The ost was great and I felt like SMT V combined the best features from previous games. One improvement I liked was the inclusion of over world encounters. I highly prefer seeing and being able to avoid enemies then some random algorithm determining them. I just felt that things kind of fizzled out towards the end. The final boss fight was probably my least enjoyable of the series. It just didn’t feel like a final boss fight at all. I reviewed this game earlier this month.
3. Persona 5 Strikers
I was extremely hesitant about getting this game. The game play was a bit different from what I’m used to, especially since the Persona series is turn based. I was worried that I would not like the game play and would end up putting it in my backlog. I’m glad that I was wrong. I really enjoyed getting a continuation of Persona 5. It was interesting how they changed the combat and still made it feel like a Persona game. I reviewed this game back in March.
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy was honestly really close to being my top game of this year. It exceeded my expectations and I has a lot of fun. The story and the characters were really great. The only reason it isn’t my number one is because of the little bit of repetitiveness in the battles as well as the sponginess of enemies. I recently reviewed this game last week.
1. NEO: The World Ends With You
It was a close decision but this had to be my top game of this year. Everything about this game was just top notch. The music was so good that I ordered the soundtrack. I really liked the improvements they made from the first game. The combat was much more enjoyable and easier. It was just a great sequel that was honestly hard to top. I reviewed this game back in September.
Conclusion
That wraps up my rankings for the 2021 games that I played. What was your favorite game of the year? What game are you looking forward to the most next year? As always thanks for reading!

Dec 23, 2021 7:56 amI’m really interested in NEO: The World Ends With You but just haven’t committed to it yet. Seeing how much you like it I’m really tempted, I’m just not sure when I’d get around to it as my current backlog is ridiculous 😅
