Hello everyone! The post for today is the Sunshine Blogger Award. I am not sure how long this has been going on but this is my first time doing one of these. I was nominated by Stephen (Honest Gamer). Be sure to check out his blog as he has some good reviews up that you should read. Without any further delay here are my answers to his questions.

If you could have a new entry from your favorite video game franchise, but in a new genre, what would it be?

The franchise I would pick is Shin Megami Tensei. For those that do not know Shin Megami Tensei is a turn based RPG series that first came out in 1992. This series is owned by Atlus and is what the Persona series is based off of. Recently I have been playing Persona 5 Strikers and have been enjoying it quite a lot. If you did not know Persona 5 Strikers was an Action RPG instead of the normal turn based system. I would like a similar game for the Shin Megami Tensei series because I think they could do it well and it would be a new experience.

What video game crossover would you love to see happen?

One video game crossover that I would love to see happen would be with Monster Hunter and Fossil Fighters. If you do not know what Fossil Fighters is, it is an old DS game where you dug up dinosaur fossils, cleaned them, revived them, then battled with them. Think Pokemon but with dinosaurs. I’d definitely recommend playing it if you have the time.

I’d love a crossover between these two series because I think it would be awesome to collect different creatures from Monster Hunter and battle with them.

Here’s some footage of the game to give you a better idea of what it is:

What platform did you start gaming on?

I started gaming on the original PlayStation. One day when I was a kid my Dad brought one home and fixed it up. I had Crash Team Racing and Spyro the Dragon on it. They were some fun games to play and I branched out to other systems and hand held systems after that.

There is often talk about difficulty vs accessibility in video games. Do you think that developers should have to include difficulty settings in their games?

I think that developers should have difficulty settings of some kind in their games. Take Fire Emblem for example, I would never have gotten into it if they had not made a casual mode where unit deaths are turned off. Not everyone is great at strategy games and sometimes some people need a longer time like myself to think up a good plan. Having options like this can allow someone to experience the game in their own way and not feel the pressure of losing units and missing character interactions.

Mega Man 11 had difficulty settings that were subtle. The lower the setting you used the more checkpoints and lives you had. The boss difficulty wasn’t changed though so the experience remained the same. This is another series that I would get frustrated with and when this one came out I not only played it, but finished it as well.

I think that if more developers included difficulty settings of some kind they would have many more people play their games. It doesn’t have to be something obvious, it could be something like lowering the speed of the game. I hope I answered this the right way.

Which legendary video game franchise do you think has the better music, The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy?

I might be a little biased on this one since I have played more Final Fantasy games than The Legend of Zelda games. From what I have played though, I think that Final Fantasy has better music. The most recent games I can compare are The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Final Fantasy VII Remake. I can easily recall the music from FFVII Remake but can not remember a single song from Breath of the Wild.

One of my favorite tracks from the Final Fantasy series is Rematch atop the Pillar from FFVII Remake.

What popular video game, movie or book series could you not get into?

One popular video game series that I could not get into was Halo. I played and finished Halo 3 but could not bring myself to finish or buy the previous games. To me it was alright but I did not see the hype behind it. This is one series that just was not for me.

Serious question now…dogs or cats?

Personally I like dogs better. I don’t mind cats but I generally prefer dogs.

What three indie games do you recommend and why?

Image from Steam page

The first Indie game that I recommend is Shovel Knight. This game is an amazing platforming game where you can play solo or you can play through on your own. There are a multitude of power ups to get as well as being available on a multitude of platforms. The best thing about Shovel Knight is the free DLC. I think that there are about two or three DLCs that are out that have you play as one of the enemies you face while experiencing a new story.

The second Indie game that I would recommend is FTL or Faster Than Light. FTL is a space strategy came where you manage your crew as well as weapons in order to defeat the Rebels. This is a great strategy came with a multitude of quests to do as well as multiple ships you can unlock. The best thing about this game is that every time you go through is unique.

The last Indie game that I would recommend is Stardew Valley. The only farming sim that I’ve played before this was the Rune Factory Series and this game is just as, if no more enjoyable. You can farm, dig through mines, fight monsters, it’s got a little something for everyone. What I enjoy the most is how relaxing it is, hours could go by with me playing this before I realize it.

What do video games mean to you?

To me video games mean a lot. I’ve talked about this before but to me they serve as a distraction from life. It’s great whenever you’ve had a bad day to just turn on a game and escape just for a bit. To me it’s also a hobby where you can easily connect with others.

I will also be nominating a few others to answer the questions I made below. You obviously do not have to answer if you don’t want to.

My questions are as follows:

  1. Favorite Video Game Developer?
  2. Worst Game You’ve Ever Played and Why?
  3. What Video Game Series Do You Want Remade?
  4. What is One Game You Think is Underrated?
  5. What is the First Video Game You Played?
  6. Pokémon, Digimon, or Neither?
  7. What Would Your Dream Video Game Console or PC Be Like?
  8. What’s Your Best Blog Post?
  9. What Got You Into Blogging?

Some great responses here, thanks for responding ?. I’m honestly torn between Zelda or FF’s music, I love them both so much.
