I was finally able to finish a game from my backlog and get started on Trails Through DayBreak II. I’ve been waiting to play this since the first one was so good. Here are my first impressions.
Thoughts so Far
Right now I’ve completed the prologue and started chapter 1-A. One thing that I noticed is that the animation seems to be a step up from Daybreak 1. From the cut scenes to the attack animations. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve played so far. The music is great as always from the very beginning.
Combat
The battle system in Trails Through DayBreak II has stayed the same from the first game. Combat can be real time as well as turn based. Most enemies can be fought either way, but some encounters and all boss fights will be turn based. There have been some additional features added to combat.
Real Time changes
You can now use arts when attacking enemies, previously you could only do one attack type per person. Using arts attacks does use EP and it goes on a cool down after use so you need to watch your timing.
Turn Based changes
The biggest change to the turn based combat are activating chain attacks. When boosted you can activate a chain attack with another character. The chain attack that triggers is in addition to whatever attack action that you took to trigger it.
Any Issues
I’ve only ever experienced one issue, but it’s not an issue that’s happened often. It’s only happened twice to me and it was early on in the prologue. There were two spots where two audio tracks sounded like they were overlapping. It was pretty brief and it was only at two certain spots, so this doesn’t seem to be a major issue, I’d say it’s pretty minor if not insignificant. I’ll see if I notice this issue at any other point while I play.
Conclusion
I’d highly recommend playing the previous game before starting Trails Through DayBreak II. There’s a summary of the events of the previous game, but you’re definitely be missing some important details. Plus you’d be missing out on playing a great game. If you’re considering getting the game, there’s a demo you can play that will let you carry your data over. As always thank you all for reading!
