Introduction

Hello again everyone, I’m back with another review. Today I’m reviewing Danganronpa, another game that was on my list of games to play. I really enjoyed this game and could not stop playing. I went ahead and bought Danganronpa V2 and V3 before I finished.

Story

Investigate murders, search for clues and talk to your classmates to prepare for trial. There, you’ll engage in deadly wordplay, going back and forth with suspects. Dissect their statements and fire their words back at them to expose their lies! There’s only one way to survive—pull the trigger.

I really enjoyed the story. There were a lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Every time I stopped playing I couldn’t wait to pick it back up again.

Game Play

The game play can be broken into several parts. The first main part is free time. During free time you can bond with the other characters and learn more about them. Each character has one page of information by default. You walk around in a first person point of view. When you enter rooms, you interact with characters and objects in a point in click style.

Exploring

Not everything is a happy affair though. Another big part of Danganronpa are class trials. Class trials take place after someone has been murdered and their death has been investigated. The goal of a class trial is to reveal the culprit.

In class trials you use the evidence and information that you obtained while investigating. You use this evidence to disprove or agree with statements that other people make. Class trials have several different mini games that move the case along.

There are also skills that you can equip before class trials. These skills each have a different effect during trials. Hanging out with different characters unlocks different skills.

Some screenshots I chose not to include. Specifically of some of the mini games. I wanted to avoid unintentionally spoiling anything. My goal in these reviews is to provide a spoiler free opinion on games that I have played.

Music

I think the music in Danganronpa is pretty good. I picked out a couple of tracks to share. The opening theme is probably one of my favorite tracks.

Likes

At first I wasn’t really sure if I would like the game. I usually stick to RPGs, but I ended up really liking the game play. Collecting evidence and going through the trials really makes you think. I also really liked the characters. When it comes to games a strong cast of characters can go a long way. Each character has their own quirks and personalities.

Dislikes

I honestly didn’t have any major dislikes. Thinking back, I’m not sure if there was anything I truly disliked. I think Danganronpa was pretty solid. If there was anything I could complain about, it’s the trial lengths. It’s not a huge issue, but they can be pretty long.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed Danganronpa more than I thought I would. I bought the second and third games before I had finished the first. This series was one that I wanted to play this year along with others like the Ace Attorney series. If you’ve played Danganronpa, what did you think of it?
