I’m back with a new post! This time I’m talking about the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection. This won’t be a review, since I’ve already played these games. It’s more of an overview of what I think of the Collection and the new features.
Brief Overview
Mega Man Star Force was released in 2006 with three versions. Those were Mega Man Star Force Leo, Mega Man Star Force Pegasus, and Mega Man Star Force Dragon. The only difference between the games is a special form you get in each of them. This series serves as a successor to the Mega Man Battle Network games from the Nintendo Game Boy. If you haven’t played those, I highly recommend them.
My Thoughts
I think that they did a great job with the Collection. So far I’ve completely played through Star Force 1 and played a good bit of 3. I think Capcom did a great job in how they handled the dual screens. Since these games came from the DS, they made use of both the top and bottom screens of the DS, as well as the touch controls. Any touch controls have been removed. I’m a fan of the new arranged OST as well as the updated portraits. Feels like I was playing it back on the DS all those years ago.

They kept the two screen format used in the DS versions. In the settings you can arrange the screens in several different ways. There are also options to change screen sizes.
Issues
There were only two issues I encountered while playing. One of those issues was with some weird screen movements when characters would move. It was a tad bit disorienting, but it only occurred 2 or 3 times and it was pretty early on. The only other issue I encountered was during a battle. One of the enemies slid off the battle grid and completely off the screen. They didn’t reappear and I had to flee the encounter. Other than that I haven’t encountered any other issues. This is with having over 20 hours of play time.
New Features
One of the best added features is the auto save. If you hadn’t played the original games, it was manual save only. If you lost a battle you’d be starting back from wherever you last saved. The auto-save is very generous and probably one of the more reliable ones out there, saving pretty frequently. You should probably still save often though. Never hurts to be safe. There are also new customization options added to alter the difficulty, such as doing more damage and lowering encounter rates.

You have control over what you want your experience to be. You can completely turn off the new arranged tracks, as well as the high resolution filter, to play it just as it was originally. Mixing and matching is also possible by having the high resolution filter on and the new music off. With the gallery you can even listen to the OST of each game, this could help you decide which OST you’d like to play with.

Just like the Battle Network Collection, there’s a multitude of content to view. There’s concept art, music, and artwork. If you’re an achievement hunter, there are built in achievements you can try to obtain for each game.
Tips for New Players
I have a few tips that will be helpful if you’re a new player. The main one is update your folder frequently. You have a folder that contains battle cards. These are the attacks you can use in battle. You can get new cards through several different ways, like purchasing them or finding them. After you acquire a card you’ll need to actually place it in your folder for it to be usable. Your folder has a maximum number of cards allowed, so make sure you’re updating it

Another tip is to be on the look out for blue or green items. These can contain numerous items from money to health upgrades. They can also contain new battle cards, so keep an eye out for them.

Conclusion
I definitely think the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is worth picking up if you’re interested. It’s definitely a good value, being $40. You get three games, not counting the different versions as separate games, with updated graphics and music. I’m glad that Capcom has continued to release collections like these. It helps makes the games more accessible and less reliant on trying to find copies for fair prices. That’s all for now, thanks for reading!
