AK’s Questions

1) Have you played/watched a series that you first liked but felt went off the rails at some point?

One series that comes to mind is Sword Art Online. I thought it was good at first, but then it just felt like it went on for longer than it needed to. It just wasn’t as good as it was in the beginning. I ended up skipping episodes just to get to the ending.

2) What about the reverse — a series that you first disliked or had no feelings about but came to enjoy?

I’d say the Devil May Cry series. The first game was good, but when I got to the second game that changed. I almost stopped playing the series, but people were saying that the third game was good so I continued. I still have to finish DMC 4 and then I need to get DMC 5.

3) How forgiving are you of glitches in a game?

I’d say that it depends on how bad the glitches are. If it’s something funny like an enemy getting stuck in a wall I honestly don’t mind it. I have a problem if the glitch is something like a bugged quest that can’t be completed without restarting or resetting your game. If glitches are constantly happening I would stop playing the game. Glitches can be funny once and a while, but when they occur frequently it becomes an issue.

4) What about a poor localization?

If a game is localized by a major company then I think a poor localization is pretty unacceptable. The main reason I say this is because they should have the resources to ensure that they aren’t putting out a version of a game that has a completely different meaning than the original. A poor localization can completely change what a character was trying to convey.

When it comes to an individual or small group of people localizing something themselves, like a game that never left Japan, I’m more forgiving. These people are using their own time and are usually not getting paid to translate an entire game so people can enjoy it. I have a lot of respect for people like that.

The one exception I have to this is people that purposefully do a poor localization. By that I mean they change what people are saying and disregard the context of the original game. A perfect example is Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force Special. The person that translated that had characters saying a lot of insensitive things. It was completely offensive.

5) How do you feel about cursing/general vulgarity in art and media?

It honestly doesn’t bother me all that much. I feel like as long as it isn’t excessive, like every other word or something like that. Sometimes cursing can convey frustration with a situation.

6) What three countries would you most like to visit, assuming you could do so without worries about time/cost?

One country that I would like to the visit the most is Italy. Back in high school my entire grade had the opportunity to go there for a think a week. I unfortunately didn’t get to go. Everyone seemed to have had a lot of fun. The main thing I’d want to see is the Colosseum. This is mostly because I learned Latin in high school and we learned a lot about the Romans.

The next country I would like to visit is Australia. One of the things I’d like to see the most is Uluru. The reason for this is because as I’ve mentioned in the past I enjoy photography. This would be a great place to take pictures. I’m also interested in seeing how big the spiders really are. Seeing an image and seeing something in real life can be completely different.

The third country I’d like to visit is Japan. One of the things I’d like to do the most is photograph the cherry blossoms. I’d also like to see the Blue Pond.

7) What’s your favorite drink(s)?

My favorite drink is a soda called Club Orange. I had this drink when I was in Ireland and it was great. I tried all the different flavors and liked those ones as well.

My Questions

What’s one game that will never leave your backlog?

The one game that will never leave my backlog is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remaster. I remember having this game on my Game Cube. When they announced the remaster I was excited to get the chance to finish the game. As I played the more I realized it was just more of the same.

What’s one game that you’d like to have a sequel?

One game that I’d like to have a sequel is Sonic Heroes. I really enjoyed that game and now that there are more Sonic characters they could easily have more teams. The game play was pretty unique in my opinion. I’ve been waiting for another Sonic Game to be exactly like this one.

Is there a series that you think needs to be rebooted?

The one series that comes to mind for me is the Sonic series. The last Sonic game I remember playing was Unleashed on the Xbox 360. Sonic Generations is probably the last Sonic game I heard a majority of people liked. It just feels like the series has kinda gone down hill with more misses then hits. Hopefully the new Sonic game being worked on will be a hit and not a miss.

What’s your favorite candy?

Lindor Truffles are some good chocolate. What’s not to love about a literal ball of chocolate. This candy is basically a chocolate shell with chocolate inside of it.

What’s your most anticipated game that releases next year?

God of War Ragnarok

As of now it has to be God of War Ragnarok. I remember not knowing if I’d enjoy the new God of War, but all those worries went away. I’m interested in seeing how everything ends.

Do you prefer customizable or non-customizable characters?

I generally prefer customizable characters in games. It makes me feel a little more connected to the character. I don’t mind if a game doesn’t have customizable characters, but it’s always a nice surprise.

What game do you have the most hours in?

The game I think I have the most hours in is Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I have around 285 hours in it. Stardew Valley is a close second with a total of 225 hours. If you haven’t played three houses I highly recommend it. It’s currently on sale so now is a good time.

If you could have one game remade for modern systems what would it be?

Custom Robo

It would have to be Custom Robo on the Game Cube. I think a remake would do wonders for the series since the last release was on the Nintendo DS. This was a fun game with a lot of customization options.

Is there a game you think more people should play?

One game I think more people should play is Half Minute Hero. It’s a fun and unique game where you have 30 seconds to save the world in each stage. You have more than 30 seconds though because you can turn back time. There are also several other characters to play as that each have their own stories and unique game play.

What is the first game you remember playing?

The first game I remember playing is Spyro the Dragon on the original PlayStation. That game was a lot of fun but as a kid I could never beat the final boss. I eventually did when I got the game digitally when I had a PSP.
