First Impressions Mini Post Opinion

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code First Impressions

It has been a bit longer than I wanted since the last post. I’ve still been getting into the rhythm at my job. I’ve also been a bit swamped game wise. Two games showed up in the same week about two days away from each other. I’ve decided to give my quick first impression on Master Detective Archives: Rain Code.

As of now I’ve completely finished chapter 0 and am almost through chapter 1. I’m enjoying the game a lot. If you enjoyed Danganronpa than you’ll definitely enjoy this game. I was hooked probably 10 to 15 minutes into the game. Once again Spike Chunsoft does a great job making diverse characters with vastly different personalities. I like the environment that they have created.

In addition to the main quest, there are side quests that you can do. Each chapter has its own side quests, except for chapter 0. A quest given in chapter 1 has to be completed in chapter 1. If you miss a quest you can replay chapters. Completing these quests will give you detective points which you can use to unlock skills. Side quests have their own trackers so that you can see where the objective is on the map. You can also see when new side quests are available, so be sure to keep a look out. I cropped the image to avoid spoiling the ending of the side quest.

List of side quests

Gameplay wise, things work in a similar way to Danganronpa. There is a little more background information about cases though. As part of your investigation, you investigate the crime scene as well as ask questions of the locals to get a better idea about the case. When it comes to solving the case you’ll be doing this in labyrinths. In theses labyrinths you will peace together information to identify the culprit. Instead of truth bullets, you have solution keys, with your goal being to dispute and point out contradictions in the case.

Abilities you can buy

I’ve been enjoying the game so far and would definitely recommend it. The only negative so far is that loading times are a bit long and more common than I thought they would be. Maybe I’m just used to not having loading screens much anymore. As always thank you all for reading!
