As you all may know I’ve been slowly going through Final Fantasy VII. As I’ve played some of my opinion have changed. I’ll start of with my initial thoughts then discuss my current thoughts. Without any further delay, here are my current thoughts on Final Fantasy VII.
Initial Thoughts
When I first started playing this game I enjoyed the Materia system a lot. I liked being able to have my characters use whatever magic I wanted them to without being penalized or having to pay attention to a class. One thing that I hated was the pacing. The first two hours of the game go by real fast as you’ve already left Midgar. I wish there would have been a little more to explore. I also felt like the difficulty at the beginning was far too easy. I sat asking myself it was truly going to be this easy, I’m glad I was wrong. Suffice to say my initial impressions were not good. I truly was not enjoying this game. This started to change a little more as I progressed.
Current Thoughts
AI progressed throughout the game I got why you were rushed out of Midgar as a lot of the meat of this game is outside of it. I enjoy the side activities that you can get involved in when you want to focus on something other than the main story. What I enjoy most about the game currently are the summons. I think my favorite has to be Odin. My favorite Materia right now is Comet.
Conclusion
Currently I am still towards the beginning of disc 2. This game is way bigger than I thought and is definitely worth the purchase. I don’t have any kind of final thoughts yet as I still haven’t finished it. I will say the best experience you’ll get is on the original PlayStation. For some reason the audio randomly cuts out every time that I play. I consider this a porting issue.
