As you all may or may not know Sony, owns PlayStation, recently shut down a company that was selling custom plates for the ps5. Sony had them change their website name, it was playstation5.com, and forced them to stop selling face plates. There are a lot of people unhappy about this and I can honestly see this from both sides.
The biggest thing that I wonder is why are third party controllers fine to use but not face plates? It could have something to do with the controller isn’t being put on your system like a face plate. I was interested in getting custom plates myself but I worried about the fit. One can reasonably assume that this means that Sony might produce face plates themselves to sell. I believe that if this is true that you’ll see more third party plates become available as long as Sony gets their product out first.
From Sony’s perspective it would be a loss of money to ignore someone selling plates for your system, especially if you were going to do it but charge a higher price. At the end of the day though, Sony has a patent pending for the face plate. They can and will go after you if you gather a large following and attempt to sell these face plates. It might seem unfair but that’s just how it is when you go against a big company. Let me know what you think below. Thank you for reading as always.
