I recently finished NEO: The World Ends With You last week. This game was absolutely amazing. I’m working on a full review, but for now I’ll share my quick thoughts on the game.

The Music

The music in this game is absolutely fantastic. There was probably only one song that I didn’t like out of all the tracks. I enjoyed the music so much that I ordered the soundtrack. Some songs in the game are remixes of ones from The World Ends With You. I think the remixes are great and give a different feel to them. I’ve got some remixes listed below for you to listen to.

The Characters

The characters in this game are just as good, if not better than the first. Each character has their own little development arcs where you learn more about them. For the main character Rindo, his biggest issue is not making his own decisions. As the game progresses he eventually starts to make his own choices. I equate this to Neku not wanting anything to do with other people in the first game, but slowly opening up as the game progresses. I even enjoyed the antagonists.

The voice actors also deserve credit for making these charterers good. I think that voices for each character were great. When I do my full review I plan on listing voice actors and the characters as they deserve some serious recognition.

The Game Play

I think that the battles in this game are so much better than in the previous one. I played the remix version of TWEWY on the Nintendo Switch and those touch controls were fickle sometimes. Some pins were hard to use because of this and the motion controls were bad. In NEO TWEWY motion controls are gone in favor of using the different buttons on your controller. Each pin is assigned to a different button. I’ve got a video that shows a little more of what I’m talking about.

You can use attacks simultaneously

I also like how they changed up missions from the first game. There is a little bit more variety with the inclusion of battles against other teams. There are also plenty of side quests to do that will allow you to access certain abilities to help you throughout the main story.

The Story

The story starts out pretty slow for the first couple hours. Things do pick up though, and once it starts going it doesn’t stop. My expectations were subverted and there were plenty of twists that left me surprised. You can tell that they spent a lot of time on this sequel. If you want to play the game I would recommend playing the first one or watch the anime. Since this is a sequel events from the first game are heavily referenced.

Conclusion

NEO: The World Ends With You was an incredible game. I would honestly say it is in heavy contention as my pick for best game of this year. I plan on doing a full review next that will be more in depth. Like my other reviews I will aspire to make them spoiler free. If I can’t do that I will put a spoiler warning so I don’t ruin anything for anyone. Thanks for reading!

I recently finished the first game on the Switch and ended up really enjoying it (so much that I’m playing the DS version now). I need to get around to playing this one since I heard its just as good as the last.

It really is. They have a demo you can play to try out the game. If you decide to buy it your progress can be carried over from the demo.
