What I Would Like to See in PlayStation’s Future

PlayStation Logo

Since the ps5 has been out for a while a figured it was time to write about what I would like to see from PlayStation in the future. I picked different topics that I think need to be addressed moving forward.

Backwards Compatibility

One of the biggest subjects I would like addressed is backwards compatibility. Though the ps5 can play ps4 games, it can’t play ps3, ps2, or ps1 games. I would like for these older games to be made available digitally. It also becomes annoying having to switch which system is plugged in to play different games.

I know there would be some games that just won’t port, but I still feel like a lot of them could. I would like this to be discussed at some point by Sony during the ps5’s life cycle. It isn’t just about being able to use one console, it is also about game preservation.

Add Themes to ps5

One thing that I miss from the ps4 is the ability to add themes. Several games had themes as items you could unlock or purchase. My favorite is the background from Persona 5 Royal that plays Colors Flying High in the background. I believe this might have been only available to those that pre-ordered. The biggest problem is the paid themes. Obviously if you get a ps5 you have no access to those.

Fixed CMOS Battery in ps4

If you were not aware the ps4 has an issue with the CMOS battery. Once that battery is removed or it fails users are unable to play games, physical and digital. This is an issue that I believe needs to be addressed because even though it takes time for the battery to fail, it’s basically a ticking time bomb. I believe that it’s a valid complaint for people to have. From what I have seen the ps5 appears to not have this issue.

Expanded Bluetooth Support

One thing I hate about the ps4 and ps5 is that my wireless headphones never work. I know there is a work around where you by a USB dongle, but I’d rather not. I know you can easily plug wired earphones into your controller, but it’s neater not having the wires.

Add Ability to Purchase Games From PlayStation Now

Though I don’t use PS Now, I have read up on it. It would be great if we could purchase permanent access to a game from PS Now. I don’t have a problem with the price, it’s good for people that want access to a wide library. I would simply like to purchase the games I enjoy rather than continuing to pay monthly to access the game. If backwards compatibility is off the table then I’d accept this option instead.

Conclusion

As usual thank you all for reading as well as your continued support. Everything listed above are changes I would like to see in the future. I’m not criticizing PlayStation, just listing some changes I’d like. What would you like to see from PlayStation in the future? Backwards compatibility is definitely one of the main issues I have with Sony. On one hand I understand why they don’t because they want to look ahead to the future, but the retro market is booming right now and it would be a waste not to profit off of it. Engineering all previous games to work on PlayStation 5 would definitely not be easy, though I doubt many people would have an issue with it if they let the games run through emulation with upscaling.

I completely agree. It feels like they’re avoiding addressing it entirely or that they don’t think enough people want it.
